Heathrow Car Hire & Car Rental

Car rental or car hire at Heathrow Airport is a great way to ensure that you are able to travel independently around the United Kingdom. Being one of the world's largest airports, London Heathrow has all the major car rental companies represented on the airport site. There are a range of services and products available and companies have desks in all the terminals.

There are a number of things to be aware of when considering a hire car as you means of transport in the UK:

Driving

Driving is on the left hand side of the road and most vehicles are manual transmission. Automatic transmission vehicles are available but are worth booking in advance to avoid disappointment due to lack of availability. The roads in the UK are narrow and often in the city streets, you will find that parked cars take up much of the space on the roads, so drive with caution. This is a tiny island with a lot of people on it so always plan for a trip to take longer than you are used to as traffic congestion is not limited to the cities at rush hour!

Consider obtaining a GPS to help you navigate smaller roads and to avoid this main thoroughfare around the capital.

Children

It is advisable to either bring your own child seats or book in advance to ensure that child seats are available from the rental company. It is the driver's responsibility to ensure that all children are securely restrained and by law they are required to use the correct restraints for safety reasons.
